A CHEERY smile from

long-serving volunteer

Gwen Vickers, one of the original Heartbeat Radio team who launched the station in '83. Gwen presented several different shows including

'GBGB' - The Great Big Getting Better Club (GB GB) for the young patients of what were then Wards 6 & 10. She was a ward helper on the show, originally presented by

Sara Dolman, and took over as the main presenter when Sara moved on to pastures new.

HOW many Mikes in this Tameside Advertiser photo

(below) from February 1985? Answer - EIGHT! To quote the paper's merry quip 'Four Mikes and... four mics!'

From left: Mike Hadfield, Mike Thorpe, Mike Wallbank

and Mike Phillips, who presented consecutive shows

on Saturday nights. What brilliant scheduling!
