Outside broadcasts... surprise guests

STAFF at the Reporter Group of Newspapers organised a coffee morning to support the station as part of our Radiothon 1990 fundraising weekend. Andy Hoyle presented his Saturday morning show live from the Reporter office in Old Street, Ashton with surprise guests local singer-songwriter-music promoter Darren Poyzer and little Billy Bradshaw accompanied by his 'minder'  Buzz Hawkins.

Andy is the Chap In The Hat with our outside broadcast team: Marc Farr, Melanie King and Mike Wallbank, plus Reporter duo Julie Cummings and Carol Woodcock. Reporter photo: October '90.

This was our second broadcast from the Reporter office during 1990. The first was In June, when Mike presented his All Kinds of Everything show while staff & helpers served coffee and cakes and collected bucket-loads of cash - £300 in three hours - for the Mandy Turner (Tameside Hospital) Scanner Appeal.

STAFF and patients at Tameside General Hospital could hardly believe their eyes one Friday afternoon in 1986 as Gordie West, country singer and entertainer from Alberta, Canada rode through the grounds on his trusty horse on a visit to the children's wards arranged by the Country Roads team. After parking the horse,

he stopped by for a chat with Mike Wallbank and Colin Martin.
